Responsible Gambling
Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. If it stops being fun, get support early.
Play safely
- Set a budget and a time limit before you start; stop when either is reached.
- Only gamble with money you can afford to lose (not rent, food, bills, or debt repayments).
- Avoid chasing losses; take breaks and keep track of spending.
- Don’t gamble when upset, stressed, or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
- Balance gambling with other activities; sleep and wellbeing come first.
Warning signs
You (or someone close to you) may need help if gambling is causing:
- Spending more time/money than planned, or hiding gambling.
- Chasing losses, borrowing, or selling things to gamble.
- Conflict, anxiety, low mood, or impact on work/study.
Controls you can use
- Deposit/spend limits, session time limits, and reminders.
- Cooling-off breaks (temporary time-out).
- Payment controls via your bank (card blocks/merchant category blocks where available).
- Unsubscribe from marketing if it makes it harder to stay in control.
